There were lake dwelling houses on the water, at the coast and on the land. This can be presented by excavations in Germany, Italy, France and in Switzerland. Besides this, in moors and small lakes, there also were huts on ground level. The conclusion that the lake dwellings were above the water is possible, based on the discussion of the results of the following sciences: sedimentology, limnology and palaeo-bothany, together with the results of excavations. Where we find in the lakes layers of water plants and a later washing away of settlement debris can be excluded, the lake dwelling was in the water.
