Weapons were both used when hunting, in a fight and at war. Many items can be used as weapon, in an impulse, but I think you refer to tools specifically made to hunt with, to hurt or to kill, to threat with or to use in fight sports or tournaments.
Obviously, one used bow and arrow. These weapons are almost as old as the world and were very important in the Middle Ages. The people on foot used as well bolas, those are weights on a string, a kind of slings. One also had catapults and the such. Besides that there were axes, sometimes with a long handle to hook behind a shield.
By the end of the Middle Ages, the gunpowder was invented and the first fire arms came into use – incomparable to the present. One shot every 5 minutes was already much.
