Wether the Middle Ages were an easy time with lots of holidays? People were attached a lot to religious habits and there were numerous hollidays when a certain saint was worshipped. Sunday was a day of rest as well and a day of veneration since Constantin the Great set up the 7 days system in the year 321.
But if people had a quiet time? The lived in a strict framework, when especially in the Summer one had to work hard for ones living. During both Summer and Winter, a day had thesame amount of hours, the 24 hour system which was as old as the Egyptians. But the duration of an hour on a specific day depended on the Sun, and thus on the seasons: in Summertime, an hour took longer then during day in Winter time, so you needed to work longer. Quite obvious: there was mork work to be done as well.
