For sure no potatoes or tomatoes, these originate in America. Food was only seasonally available: bread and porradge was always available where there was cereal – by the end of the Winter, people often suffered from hunger – fruit in Autumn, roots of plants all year through, onions, some wild meat, some pork, beef et cetera. Food was brought to taste with expensive honey or even more expensive salt. Spices originate outside Europe so they were unknown, but herbs like chive were indeed available. Maybe boring to us, but very healthy and fit for the tough life back then.
